WTS organises a round table on gender and transport in London
This open seminar will give an introduction to international transport issues, with a particular focus on gender perspectives in developing countries. The workshop will introduce the work of the global Transport Knowledge Partnership (GTKP), an initiative funded by the UK's Department for International Development (DfID) to promote and disseminate sustainable transport knowledge and encourage greater participation from the developing world.
Guest speakers include Marinke van Riet, Executive Secretary of the International Forum on Rural Transport and Development and a representative of the International Transport Workers Federation. The event will be introduced by WTS London Board Member Jenni Borg.
The workshop will cover key issues in gender and transport in the developing world, including transport accessibility and maternal mortality, and supporting women workers tackling HIV and AIDS. The workshop will also look at the work of the International Forum for Rural Transport and Development, including an innovative project in Makete, Tanzania which has transformed the local community.
