The Africa/Asia Community Access Programme (AFCAP/ASCAP) has partnered with IFRTD to carry out research on rural transport services. IFRTD is working in Kilolo District, Tanzania, to collect baseline data that can be used to define type and quality of rural transport services that operate along a rural road. The baseline data to be collected will comprise of transport frequency and costs for passenger and freight. Data will also be collected on catchment population relating to the use of the specific rural roads forming part of the survey. An important element of the project is to ensure that we get a buy-in from the relevant agencies within the Tanzanian government and ensure that they are involved in deciding the key data that needs to be collected.
